Nick Smith -
"Yesterday evening I signed the lease with FC Nelson for their new clubrooms in Guppy Park in front of the existing change rooms.
The $366k project, of which Council is contributing $118k, involves the purchase and relocation of the 1980s Blenheim Polo Clubrooms of 190 sq m. The lease is for 530 sq m of the reserve land and is for 20 years, until 2045 at minimal rental.
I am a big fan of the FC Nelson football club that was formed in 2011 from the amalgamation of four previous clubs and has grown to over 500 players. It does an awesome job in developing young footballers and plays an incredibly important role with our Chin, Karenni and Columbian communities. These clubrooms will help FC Nelson but also be an important meeting place for these ethnic communities.
My congrats and thanks to the FC Nelson team, led by President Phil Thompson (centre) and left to right Merv Ward (Tim Miller Plumbing), Michael Musso (Design Windows), Cr Tim Skinner, Helena Glover (FC Nelson), George Molnar (Bays Joinery) and FC Manager Nicole Cooley.
This is an awesome community project and if any other Nelsonians can help, please get in touch with myself or FC Nelson."
