FCN 1st XI vs Wakefield 6:0
This weeks fixture we really wanted to improve on our finishing & play in the attacking third, meanwhile keeping a clean sheet. We went into the sheds at half time 2-0 up with both our front two Cristian & Brandyn getting on the scoresheet. Whilst Wakefield did made a few promising breaks out wide, our defence stood strong & Deeeaaannnooooo was only tested once, maybe twice. In the 2nd half we came out with more emphasis on executing more incisive passing to create more opportunities to build on the work done at training which resulted into several chances finding the back of the net. The notorius & very mysterious Guppy Park Sniper was out taking pot shots once again, Wes Olea being his only victim, going down in the box, with the crowd well pleased with his theatrics.
Congratulations to Cristian Benitez for scoring his first Hatrick for FC Nelson, Brandyn Pirere with 2 & Alejandro scoring an opportunistic goal mid way through the 2nd half. Final result, a solid 6-0 win & remain Top of the League.
1st Div W - Suburbs vs FCN 1st XI 0:6
FC Nelson Women's 1st Division arrived reenergised to their second showing against Suburbs on May 25th. FC was hungry for a win following their first conceit of the season to Richmond Foxes the previous week, a hunger that was satisfied by a 6-0 win against Suburbs. Striker Zoe King and Keeper/Midfielder Viola Traberth scored one goal each, while Strikers Hailey Maddren and Grace Roche both added 2 goals to their season totals.
Motuka vs FCN Locomotive 1:1
The boys in purple headed to the land of the large pitch to do battle against Moooootueeeeeka. A beautiful Memorial Park surface allowed for some nice passing football from both sides, however, a staunch Loco defence across the park denied Motueka any clear scoring possibilities in the first half and saw all the scoring chances fall to Loco. Unfortunately scoring boots seemed to have been left back in Nelson and chance after chance went begging. Finally Sam Kennedy turned the ball into the net from a set piece to give the Loco lads the lead at half time.
The second half continued as the first with numerous Loco scoring chances going begging and the Loco goal well protected. As the game wore on though, Motueka kept pushing forward with determination and with 10 mins to go, they slotted a goal from following up a set piece shot for a 3 yard tap-in. Loco had scoring chances in the final 10 mins to take all the points, but that winning goal remained elusive. Final score 1-1
Player of the day went to DK for his immense work rate in the middle of the park.
Shooting practice at training this week!!
FCN Karenni vs Tahuna Reserves 5:1
5-1 (3xlabu/1Phraedo (penalty )/1 David)
Great game by Karenni squad - Overall it was a solid performance (all round) & worked hard & well as a unit - attacking/ defending & goalkeeper. Awesome team spirit & understanding. Several goal scoring opportunities missed incl 1x penalty (1 scored). Squad slowly starting to gel well. We played a really good game & utilized the entire pitch with great off ball movement. Tahuna gave it their all & put up a decent fight-played in good spirit. Thank you to our loyal supporters & appreciate your support.
